Still Lost - Tales From The Year 2080

Sam A Miller brings us an absurd futuristic comedy in what seems like a perfect mashup of 'Black Mirror' and 'Rick and Morty'

I think the best way I could possibly describe Still Lost is by comparing it to Black Mirror mixed with Rick and Morty. It's a weird and wonderful collection of dark comedic futuristic sci-fi stories that make you think about 'what if's' and facing consequences. This book is a compilation of short stories, mostly taking place in the year 2080, and it features various outrageous, crazy and fascinating ideas. Its got future age technology, artificial intelligence, enhanced and augmented humans, and even a baboon who gets way more intelligent than any baboon ever should. Then there's these quirky changes in society and a bunch of ridiculous situations. But there's a deeper theme at the center of each story. I can guarantee you'll get a laugh or two out of Still Lost. The humor is a little unhinged at times, but not in a way where you feel like it's just there for jokes. In fact, a lot of these stories use humor to discuss much darker and surprisingly philosophical topics. For instance, The premise of a monkey becoming all kinds of intelligent sounds like it could taken down the joke route, but it ends up becoming a deep diving tale that centers on intelligence, consciousness, and the idea of identity. What happens to an ape we've constantly treated like a joke, asking it if it wants a banana, or pulling silly monkey faces at it, then it starts to get a sense of who and what you truly are? Even a story about an intelligent baboon comes along with some absolutely absurd moments. Then you have the completely insane story about what would happen if grass was a living, breathing, and feeling creature. As the story unfolds it will shift your whole perspective of daily life. It's humorous and strangely unsettling at the same time. Still Lost is a compilation of all things wacky, weird, bizarre, serious and absurd. The stories all connect in different ways and I will definitely be going in for a second read at some point to see if theres anything i missed the first time round or if theres any fun details I didnt put together initially, and I think I will enjoy ut just as much the second time round.
