Fallout Is Mission: Impossible Firing on Absolutely Everything
The setup
After a mission to recover stolen plutonium goes wrong, Ethan Hunt and his team race to stop nuclear attacks while CIA operative August Walker is sent to watch every move they make.
Mission: Impossible Fallout might just be the best of this whole franchise. Firstly, there are car chases! Helicopter chases! Rooftop chases! Ridiculous stunts! Brutal fight scenes! Nukes! Henry Cavill!
All of these elements come together to create one hell of an action packed ride. This movie continues directly after Rogue Nation. Now called the Apostles, the remnants of the Syndicate have gotten their hands onto 3 plutonium cores and unsurprisingly, intend to detonate some nukes.
The three agents are soon joined on their mission by a CIA agent named August Walker (played by Henry Cavill), and we soon find ourselves once again facing off against Ethan Hunt’s arch nemesis, Solomon Lane. Obviously there can’t be a smooth operation between these two.
Cavill puts in an outstanding performance here. With his enormous frame and physical presence, he certainly looks like he could take on the likes of Ethan Hunt in a fair fight.
There’s so much action, tension and intensity throughout the film. it really doesn’t ever let up! Yet somehow, the narrative isn’t dragged down by all the stunts, nor is it rushed along to make room for more explosions. It works perfectly!
The Stunts are Ridiculous. At this point, I’m sure that Tom Cruise had made up his mind that doing action scenes wasn’t fun enough for him, and he wanted to try putting himself into real danger every twenty minutes or so. Every single stunt in the film, from leaping across rooftops, to zipping around town through heavy traffic to piloting a helicopter through the mountain.
Overall, there really aren’t any issues with Fallout as a movie. It’s an exciting ride from beginning to end, perfectly-paced and full of some of the best action sequences ever put together for the series.
Positives
The helicopter finale, bathroom fight, Paris chase, HALO jump, Henry Cavill, Ilsa, Ethan's character actually drives the plot.
Negatives
It is a long film, the plot can get dense with double crosses, almost nothing else to complain about.
Verdict
The franchise at full power. Huge stunts, great characters and a story strong enough to hold all of it together.
